Welcome to the IBM Tivoli Storage Manager Version 5.4 Client Application Program Interface for OS/400.

This file contains information you need for using the base API, as well as information that was not available for our printed publications.

The Application Program Interface can be used by either developers writing new applications which will send data to an IBM Tivoli Storage Manager server, or by end users of these applications.

End users of an application should consult its documentation for specific usage information about the IBM Tivoli Storage Manager API modules and configuration.

Description

The Tivoli Storage Manager application program interface (API) enables an application client to use storage management functions. The API includes function calls that you can use in an application to perform the following operations:

Start or end a session
Assign management classes to objects before they are stored on a server
Back up or archive objects to a server
Restore or retrieve objects from a server
Query the server for information about stored objects
Manage file spaces
Send retention events
