Spanish 2 will be covered in the first four weeks and Spanish 3 will be completed in the second four weeks of the Eight-Week Summer Session. For more information see your academic adviser....just another great reason to come to the advising center. TAKING COURSES IN THE SUMMER? Sometimes students want to take courses over the summer to "catch up" on credits or "get ahead." Early consultation with an academic adviser to review your plan is always recommended!! At University Park: The Summer Schedule of Classes is available at the Penn State Bookstore. Follow the telephone registration instructions to schedule courses. Please note section numbers for summer session courses: 4xx are Intersession courses (May 8-June 2) 8xx are Eight-week courses (June 7-Aug 2) 6xx are Six-week courses (June 21-Aug 2) At a Commonwealth Campus: Call the campus for course and registration information. At another institution: Before you enroll in a course at another institution, you should make certain that: 1. Penn State will transfer credits from that institution, 2. The course you want to take will fulfill a requirement for graduation. In some cases, an adviser in the Advising Center can answer both questions and can prepare a Transfer Course Evaluation form. In other cases, the adviser may refer you to the Undergraduate Admissions Office to verify that Penn State will accept the credit from the other institution. Once it is verified that credit will transfer, an adviser can confirm how those credits will be used to fulfill your graduation requirements. Start this process early, so that there will be enough time to complete these steps before the course begins. NOTE: If you want to take one of our required college courses (e.g. Math 110, Acctg 211, MSIS 200), we must verify that the course is the equivalent of our Penn State course. To accomplish this, you should obtain a copy of the course description and a syllabus and bring them to the Advising Center. An adviser will then consult with the appropriate faculty member to determine if the course is acceptable. Please allow four weeks to complete this process. STUDENT ALERT !!!!!!! The courses vary for each major -- so check your Curriculum Guide to see the list of courses for each major. In most cases, the courses are junior and senior year classes. But in a few majors, the courses are or can be taken in the sophomore year. Don't be caught off guard -- look ahead at the courses listed for the major(s) you are considering to see where you will need C grades! We are frequently asked about grades and if they will fulfill requirements! If you have any questions, please ask your adviser! REMINDERS: 1. Math requirement -- if you will not complete the Math 110 or 140 requirement before the start your sophomore year, see your adviser to discuss course sequencing. 2. Nine required courses -- remember the nine courses required by the end of the sophomore year as you plan your fall schedule. 3. Accurate local address -- as you change residences, especially if you move off campus, file a change of address with the Registrar or at the advising center so that important University information will reach you. 4. Use GOPHER to verify open sections of desired courses.
