     NetWare for Macintosh 3.12

ABSTRACT:

NetWare for Macintosh supports volumes larger than two Gigabytes.
For these large volumes, the Macintosh Finder will show a maximum
of 1,000 Megabytes available. However, the actual amount of
available disk space may be considerably greater. (Note: This is
a limitation of the Apple Macintosh operating system, and not a
problem with NetWare for Macintosh.) The file AFP11.EXE contains
the AFP patch version 3.12f. Version 3.12f of AFP solves the
following problems.

SYMPTOM

When a user's password has expired and they attempt to login
using the NetWare UAM (encrypted passwords), they will receive an
"Error -1072 occurred while trying to login: session has been
closed by server". After the first user receives the -1072 error
then all Macintosh users will receive the same error message
during login and the file server utilization will increase to
50%-65%. Through MONITOR.NLM under Connection Information, the
user names show up as logged in, but cannot be deleted. After
multiple login attempts the Macintosh workstation may hang during
login. Loading MONITOR.NLM may cause the file server to ABEND.
Unloading AFP may cause the file server to hang.

When mounting a volume larger than 4GB on the desktop, the
Macintosh Finder may incorrectly show the available disk space
as something less than 1GB. You cannot copy files that are
larger than the reported available disk space. The series of
calculations in AFP, that determine the number of bytes available
on a volume, produced erroneous results. This problem occurred
when the size of the result was over 4GB.

When a locked file is moved to the trash, the client and server
hang (running process AFP). NetWare Operating System 3.11 has a
bug regarding moving, renaming, and deleting files with a locked
stream. This particular problem occurs when running NetWare for
Macintosh 3.12 on a file server with the NetWare 3.11 Operating
System.

Servers with large amounts of RAM suffer GPPEs or ABENDs in
process AFP. The ABEND will read "ABEND: Check memory found
contiguous fragments not pointing to each other."

There is a problem that with similar volume alias names the
wrong volume would mount or server would ABEND.

SOLUTION

Apply the AFP11 patch to AFP.NLM v3.12a.
