Telnet to a Remote Host IBM/DOS Version Introduction. You telnet to a remote Internet host through use of a program that implements telnet communication protocol. At the Penn State microcomputer laboratories the PC/TCP package is used on the IBM-PS/2 systems for this purpose. When establishing a telnet connection it is normally important to know if the remote host requires VT100 or IBM3270 terminal emulation. The PC/TCP package contains both types of terminal emulation, and selects between them automatically. The following steps will successfuly establish a telnet connection with a remote Internet host. - From the MAIN MENU select the option HOST CONNECTION MENU - Select TELNET TO A HOST. You will now be asked to type in a host name or IP address. - Enter one of the following (they are equivalent): LIAS.PSU.EDU or 128.118.88.88 You will now be connected to the Penn State library catalog system LIAS. When you want to terminate the telnet connection you will need to issue the local telnet QUIT command. You do this via the following steps: - Hold down the [Alt] key and press [F10]. A command bar will appear at the bottom of the screen. - Type Q to issue the quit command. You will be returned to the HOST CONNECTION MENU.
