MOO BASICS LOGIN: To logon a MOO, you must have a telnet access and know the address of the MOO you want to reach. Try connecting to one of these two MOOs by telnetting to: erau.db.erau.edu 8888 (Diversity University) At banner screen, type: connect guest You are now officially inside the MOO. . .the online interactive, multi- user, realtime world of words and conversation. INTRODUCTION: Using a MOO environment is very easy. You can talk to other users and objects using the keyboard, you can move around a collaboratively defined virtual space, and you can use other objects. TALKING: You can talk to others on the MOO by preceding everything you type with quotation marks. For example, type "Hello" an you'll say hello to everyone else in the room! MOVING AROUND: If you look at the screen descriptions carefully, you will see references to exits available to you. You may type GO NORTH if the exit is indicated NORTH or you may simply type OUT or a specific destination. . .depending on the screen description. You may also teleport yourself to a specific location by typing @GO USING OTHER OBJECTS: The MOO is a collection of programmed objects. You are an object on the MOO. Every programmed object has certain verbs that accompany the object. As a player object, you can speak and move around. There are many other customized objects on the MOO. If you type HELP or @EXAMINE , you can get a list of the verbs you may use with any designated object. All objects have a name and an object number. When having trouble, try using the object number instead of the name. USING THE INFOCENTER: Type @go Infocenter to transport yourself. The Infocenter is a series of gopher shelves and other objects. Feel free to explore. MORE MOO DESCRIBING: You can describe how you feel, look, what you are doing, etc. by beginning each line of keyboard input with a colon or typing out the word EMOTE. :waves to the class [is seen as Tona waves to the class] The emote programming knows to substitute your name in the front of the sentence.
