Colleagues in academic disciplines have developed a mechanism for recognizing and disseminating meritorious research and theory development through refereed publications. As practitioners, we are often so caught up in 'doing' that excellent practices and programs are largely unrecognized at a national or international level. Similarly, few practitioners are widely recognized for their excellence because very few of us publish; innovations are seldom disseminated to others interested in practice, in part because there are few mechanisms to do that. The International Journal of Continuing Education Practice fills this niche. It will foster excellence in practice and assist in the dissemination and development of new ideas through the peer review process. Peer Review Guidelines While peer review of academic articles is reasonably well understood, peer review of practice is another matter. In the tradition of the field of adult and continuing education, the Editors invite you to participate in the development of the guidelines by which good practice should be judged. Please subscribe to the Journal to engage in this moderated discussion. (A moderated discussion means that messages sent to CONTED are not automatically distributed, but are first reviewed by the Editors.) The discussion will begin March 14 and continue for several weeks until a reasonable consensus has developed regarding peer review of continuing education practice. The resulting criteria for evaluating good practice will be used by reviewers in the referee process, and will be provided to authors to guide them in their submissions. Editorial Board Members Editorial Board members are expected to be knowledgeable and experienced practitioners in any area of adult and continuing education. Members of the Editorial Board review articles submitted to the journal and provide advice and assistance to the Editors. In conjunction with the discussion on peer review of practice, we will also be addressing the qualifications necessary to be invited to serve as a member of the editorial board. Please subscribe to the Journal to engage in this discussion. Call for Papers and Author's Guidelines Please start now to give some thought to excellent programs and practices that you can share with others. An official call for papers will be issued when the above discussions have concluded. In the meantime, we encourage you to contact us with your ideas. You can reach us by sending a mail message to Conted@max.cc.uregina.ca Your message will not be distributed to the list. However, so that we know your message is just for the editors, it would be helpful if you used "To Editors" as your subject line. We hope to hear from you soon.
