Universal Access is designed for users who can telnet from other
systems on the Internet.  The Universe system provides full Internet
capabilities, such as Telnet, FTP, IRC, and access to Gopher, WAIS, etc.
All newsgroups are available, of course.
 
 
Users on the Internet who do not have full Internet capabilities at
their home sites can telnet into Universe for the flat rate of $8.95
per month; no time charges apply.  Because Digital Express respects
user privacy, anonymous accounts can be established*
 
 
Your Universe account will be a Unix shell account, connected to the
Internet with a T1 high speed connection.  A wide range of software
is available for your use, and new packages are frequently installed
by our operations staff.
 
 
Disk storage is limited to 3 megabytes per user, and compilers and
other development oriented packages are not available.  "Screen" and
other packages which allow multiple windows are not permitted on the
Universe system.  Each user is restricted to one login session at a
time. There are no telephone dial in lines associated with the Universe
system.  If you need an account without these restrictions, consider

To subscribe to Universal Access:
 
  o  Telnet to universe.digex.net (IP address 164.109.10.4)
 
  o  Log in as new and fill out the new account application.
     Payment is by credit card only (MC, VISA, AMEX, Diners
     Club, Carte Blanche; Discover and JCB available soon)
 
  o  Your password will be given to you online after you apply;
     PLEASE note it carefully, and do not lose it.
 
  o  Account creation takes one business day.  If there are problems with
     your account application, send mail to "office@universe.digex.net"
 
 
After you apply, your account will be established and you can begin
using it at once.  You will be sent a contract card; this must be
signed and returned to Digital Express Group at once. Your account
will be deleted if the contract card is not returned within 30 days.
 
 
Customer support is available by sending mail describing the problem
to "help@universe.digex.net".  The users guide for the service is
available online; type "help" at the universe prompt for access to
the help system.
 
 
There is a $10.00 setup charge for each account.  You will be billed
$18.95 when your account is established ($10 setup and $8.95 monthly
charge) and $8.95 will be billed to your credit card on the first of
each following month for as long as you maintain the service.
 
 
If you sign up after the 15th of the month, you will be billed
$18.95 but that monthly charge will be applied to the next month;
the remaining days in your initial month will be free of charge.
