Scheduling Technology Resources Technology Classrooms The university Registrar assembles a schedule of classes for all general classrooms about ten months prior to the beginning of each semester. At this time, a Technology Classroom Request form is sent to each academic department. Faculty interested in scheduling a technology classroom must see their Department Scheduling Representative and specify the type of technology classroom model desired, the required projection device and any remote access needs. An electronic version of the request form named Schedule-Technology can also be found on AIS under Registrar on EBB. Long-term scheduling of labs such as 6A Findlay, 108 Waring, and 6 Willard must be done at this time as well. The Scheduling Office works with the Center for Academic Computing and Audio-Visual Services to compile the requests and to ensure that classes are assigned to appropriate rooms. This information also provides important feedback concerning the demand for technology classrooms and equipment. Because the number of technology classrooms with each specific model are limited, communication between faculty and the scheduling office is vital. Faculty should schedule rooms and equipment in sufficient time to ensure the availability of the desired resources. The UNIX Systems Each user of a UNIX platform must have an account on the system being used. Interested faculty should contact the Accounts Office in 230 Computer Building at 865-4773 or send e-mail to accounts@psuvm.psu.edu. Scheduling Technology Carts and AV Equipment General Information Technology Carts Mobile technology carts can be scheduled by calling Audio-Visual Services at 865-5400. AV Services presently delivers fully configured systems to Chambers and the Classroom Building.(Some additional carts are available in other buildings; however, only the Chambers and Classroom Building carts offer current hardware and software.) Scheduling mobile computer units must be done a minimum of two days in advance. Faculty planning on using a CD-ROM player should bring a CD-ROM caddie as well. If any other AV equipment is required, it must be scheduled at the same time as the cart. Audio-Visual Equipment Scheduling of portable AV equipment must be made at least two days in advance to ensure availability. Films and videos from the central collection should be picked up in Room 24 Willard the day prior to the scheduled showing. Reservations can be made by calling Audio-Visual Services at 863-3202. Equipment in the Classroom Building Technology Carts Arrangements for use of technology carts and related equipment as well as traditional audio-visual equipment in the Classroom Building must be made with Ken Boonie, 863-8505. The technology cart comes with a computer, software and an LCD panel. If additional equipment is needed, it must be specified during the scheduling request. There is one IBM 77 on a cart that has a DVI Card. If you would like the DVI capabilities, notify Ken Boonie and he will try to set the cart aside for you. Televisions and VCRs Televisions are available in the Classroom Building in every room except 101, 102, 104, and 201. These latter rooms are supplied with permanently installed video projection. Additional audio-visual equipment must be scheduled by calling 865-5400. Films and videos from the central collection are delivered to 108 Classroom Building the day prior to the scheduled showing. Videos can be picked up from 108 since all classrooms in the Classroom Building have built-in video playback systems. Student operators are available to show 16mm films or operate slide projectors if given two days advance notice. Equipment in the Forum The AV staff of Forum holds an orientation session before each semester, introducing new users to the room setup and AV scheduling policies. This session is highly recommended. If a new user is unable to attend, the staff will be happy to arrange another. Technology Carts The Forum has a fully configured DOS/Windows cart and a Quadra 700 cart that can be scheduled like other AV equipment.(Two other carts with a Macintosh IIcx and an IBM 50Z are also available in the Forum Building; however, the hardware and software are not current. These carts may be scheduled the same as that above.) Faculty wishing to schedule these carts must notify the AV staff at least 3 days in advance. The Forum AV staff can be reached at 865-0133. LCD panels are not necessary, as images will be piped through the permanently mounted projection system. If other AV equipment is needed, it must be scheduled along with the cart. Other AV Equipment All other AV equipment can be scheduled through the AV staff at the Forum at 865-0133. Equipment is on a first-come first-serve basis with a minimum of three days advance request.
