- focus of la-483 is on Internet

   - how to use it effectively

     - much like shooting at a moving target
     - as such, this is a unique course
        - redeveloped and improved each semester

   - this requires developing experience with a number of
     information tools

     - internet-based conferences (listserv, usenet news)
     - distributed info systems (gopher, www, wais)
     - remote-access basics (telnet, ftp)
     - accompanying technology (file formats, viruses, etc.)
     - issues (access, privacy, etc.)
