Strategic Plan and Report Components I. Mission Statement ¥ 1-2 pages ¥ Mission statement itself is one paragraph, expressed in present tense: "[Media Organization] is ...." ¥ Explain why this is a workable mission statement, accurately reflecting the organization's history, current situation, current environment. II. SWOT Analysis ¥ Show original brainstorming list ¥ Show final list of 5 factors each ¥ Discuss why key factors are important; how they affect mgt. decisions ¥ 7-10 pages ¥ along with goals, a key element in report and presentation III. Customer Needs Analysis ¥ Identify key customers, what they expect from media organization ¥ Describe current relationship of each key customer with media organization (satisfied; not satisfied; has many other options, etc.) ¥ Conclusions you would draw about customer service, competition ¥ 3-4 pages IV. Goals and Performance Indicators ¥ Essentially, what the organization must do to thrive ¥ Up to five goals, each with 3-4 performance indicators (measurable ways to determine if the goal is met) ¥ Discuss why each goal is essential ¥ 5 pages, one per goal/performance indicator, plus discussion pages (1-2) V. Vision Statement ¥ One page, with 1 paragraph for the statement itself ¥ Describes the organization you want to become; expressed in future tense: "[Media organization] will..." ¥ Should have some "blue sky," or "stretch-goal" elements to it ¥ Describe how you came to the this vision, and why it reflects a reasonable goal for your organization. VI. Team Observations ¥ In report and in presentation, a recounting of what you learned/observed during the process (what was difficult, what was easy; interest/personality clashes; how you determined work assignments, etc.) ¥ 1 page
