Version 5.08
WS FTP Limited Edition is a FTP (File Transfer Protocol) client used for copying files between computers.
NOTE: On June 1, 2002, FTP was turned off on many Penn State servers; therefore FTP programs will no longer work. For more information as well as alternative access methods, see File Transfer.
The install program is on the CD in the folder \windows\utils\ftp\ws_ftp\ws_ftpLE.exe and on ftp.aset.psu.edu under pub/access/cd/windows/utils/ftp/ws_ftp/ws_ftpLE.exe.
If you are reading this with I-View, click here to install it.
Note: occassionally the install window doesn't have focus -- it is behind other windows. If you don't see it look for it on the task bar (and click on it there).
Go to the temporary directory you downloaded the ws_ftpLE.exe file to and double-click on it.
The vendor's install program will ask you if you qualify to use the program. You must be a student, faculty member of staff member of the University to be permitted to use the program. (Click the "Yes" button when asked.)
We could not change the list of preinstalled FTP servers, as we did with prior versions of WS_FTP. Two commonly used servers are:
- ftp.aset.psu.edu -- anonymous server
- software.aset.psu.edu -- ITS licensed software; use your Access Account userid and password to log in.
Press the HELP button in the program to read about it.
