The steps for using Windows 95 or Windows 98 to dial up and connect to the Penn State Access Server are covered in a single document. However, you must know which version of Windows 95 you have, because some steps apply to only certain versions.
Instructions for connecting Windows NT version 4 are available in a different document.
To decide which version of Windows you have, read on.
You can tell which version of Windows 9x you have by <right-clicking> on the My Computer icon on the Desktop, then click on Properties. On the [General] tab of the System Properties dialog box, in the upper right corner, you'll see that your version is:
- 4.00.950 -- Original Windows 95
- 4.00.950a -- Original Windows 95 with upgrade
- 4.00.950B -- Windows 95 SR2 (only available to OEM suppliers)
- 4.10.1998 -- Original Windows 98
- 4.10.2222B -- Windows 98 Special Edition 2
A single document contains all the steps for all versions of Windows 95 and Windows 98. You will need to pay careful attention to perform only those steps that apply to your system. (For example, be certain that you do not install the Windows 95 dial-up scripter on a Windows 98 system.) Use the Windows 9x CD instructions, or perhaps, a more recent version found at http://www.pac-its.psu.edu/windows/9x-dial.htm to set up a Windows 95 or Windows 98 Dial-Up connectoid for the PSU Access Server.
