Creating Dialup Connections with Windows XP
Step 1.
Go to your start menu and select "Settings" and open the "Control Panel." |
Step 2. Check "Switch to classic view." NOTE: If you do not see the check box as shown above, you will have to click the double arrows at the right of the "switch to classic view" caption. |
Step 3.
Open the "Network Connections" icon. |
Step 4.

Step 5.
Click "Next." |
Step 6.
Select the top option, "Connect to the Internet," and click "Next." |
Step 7.
Select the middle option "Set up my connection manually" and click "Next." |
Step
8.
Select "Connect using dial-up modem" and click "Next." |
Step 9.
Enter "Penn State" for the connection name and click "Next." |

Find a phone number that
is a local call for you. Enter that phone number into the "Phone Number"
box. For example, 8632222 is the phone number for University Park. Note:
You will incur long-distance charges if you enter this number and it is
not a local number from where you're dialing. If you are in an area that
requires you to dial the area code for local calls then you need to enter
the area code into this box too.

| Step 11.
Enter your Penn State access id (the first part of your e-mail address) all in lowercase letters in the "Username" box. Enter the password in the correct boxes.

Step 12.
Click "Finish." |

13.
Click on the "Start" button, click "Settings" and click "Network Connections." |
Step 14. Click the RIGHT mouse button on the connection that was just made and select "Properties." |
Step 15.
Highlight the "Internet Protocol (Tcp/Ip)" setting and click on "Properties." |

Click on "Use the following DNS server addresses." Enter "146.186.157.22" as the preferred DNS server and "146.186.15.18" as the alternate DNS server. Click "OK" as many times as it takes to close all windows. |
